Vacation Weekend

The second weekend in November, Bruce and I got to go on a Mission Presidents Vacation! It was actually a training seminar held in St. George, Utah. One would think that heading south would mean it would be a nice, warm, sunny few days. Not so! It was freezing down there! But we did have a wonderful time! For one thing, it was a spiritual feast! We were trained by the leaders of the church. In fact, I'm thinking that we must have been in the "less-effective mission president couples remedial training group". There were only seven couples there to be trained, and they sent nine couples to train us! Hmmmm......

Anyway, we got to spend lots of time with our very good friends, Bruce and Elaine Miller, who are from California and are busy trying to run the Utah Salt Lake City South Mission. They began their mission the same time that we did, and we love having them as neighbors in the blocks south of us. Every month or so, we get together for dinner and pick each others' brains for ideas about just how to do this job. We smile in amazement that we are all surviving, laugh at ourselves and fuel up for another month in the mission. We sure do love them! We also got to make many new friends and learn a lot.

One of the church historians spent the weekend with us, and we toured many beautiful church history sites in southern Utah. All in all, it was a good time. It was also kind of funny to see how much these 200 missionaries have become "our kids". The entire time we were gone, we thought about them, talked about them, called home often to see how they were doing, and couldn't wait to get back and see them again!
