The Clampetts Head West

After the call. After the announcement. After studying and planning. After parties and speeches. After too many tears and singing 'Til We Meet Again. After cleaning and packing. After many good-byes, and never enough hugs from the babies. We squeezed so much stuff in our new Expedition that we looked like a couple of Hillbillies from Hockessin, and pulled out of town at 9:15 a.m. (And Bruce had only said that we should leave by 8:00. Way to go, Nancy!!) on Tuesday, June 15th, 2010. We hardly look like a missionary couple, more like a couple of homeless wanderers, but we're on our way! Who knows what adventures await us.....

Monday night, I tried to pack Hailey Kate and take her with me. She fit very nicely in this big Rubbermaid bin, but her mama would have none of it and Bruce said it was not appropriate. Goodness! I was only going to take ONE! Oh well.

Tuesday morning, I packed all of my jeans and sweatshirts, my gym clothes, my pajamas, my toiletries, my sewing machines, my pictures of the grandkids (which filled two giant rubbermaid bins), my church books and food for the journey into the car. I got in and just before we pulled out of the driveway, I realized that all of my blouses, skirts and blazers were still hanging nicely in their garment bags in my bedroom closet upstairs. We had to run back in and get them. Do you suppose that was a Freudian slip?

We had a very uneventful drive yesterday. Well, it was uneventful for me because I slept most of the time. I actually don't know if it was eventful at all. Okay, so Bruce drove all day yesterday and we made it to Champaign, Illinois. We're about to go gather buffalo chips so we can build a fire and whip up some griddle cakes, and then it will be westward ho again. Let the adventure begin.....
