It's All About the Accent

Our delightful Elder Verges hails from Cordoba, Argentina.  He spent ten months of his mission serving there, waiting for a visa, so he could come to the United States.  We're pretty annoyed about that now, because we really like him and we feel like we got gypped!

He's a great missionary, and has baptized a lot of people, particularly young women from the Young Single Adult wards.  Hmmmmm....  I told him it is because of his dimples.  He swears it is because of his accent.  He insists that the accent from the Cordoba region is the most endearing of all Spanish accents, sort of like a sweet southern drawl in America.  I told him that he's full of bologna.  So I googled it, and this is what I found.

"The accent from Cordoba? Sure, it's different. It's a little bit funny. And nice. People from other provinces have their particular accents too. But Cordoba's is the most notorious."

I'm not sure that notorious is synonymous with endearing, but whatever.  In an effort to at least reduce some of the schmoozing that he does with the females in Utah, most of whom have never even heard of Cordoba, I put a few signs up in the AP's office to help him remember that he is a missionary, and what he should be doing.

He's going to be furious when he sees that I've posted this on the blog.  He insists that he doesn't schmooze, he is just using the gifts God gave him.  I tell him he's prideful.  He tells me he's confident.  I tell him he's ridiculous.  He quotes scriptures to me.  How do you argue with scriptures?  I still think it's the dimples.
