I don't know about anyone else, but I know at the top of my bucket list has always been:
1. Be the main speaker in a Sacrament Meeting where the prophet is in attendance.
Not.
I cannot imagine many things more terrifying in life.
On Sunday, August 15th, President Winn and I were asked to speak in our home ward Sacrament Meeting. Our home ward just happens to be President Monson's home ward. Most Sundays, President Monson is out and about the world on church business, but when he is in town, he likes to stop by for Sacrament Meeting in his own ward. As luck would have it, he was in town. When I got to the part of my talk where I was retelling a story that President Monson had told, I sort of just wanted to invite him up to the pulpit to tell it himself, in case I told it wrong or left part out. When I got to the part where I was quoting him, I accidentally thought out loud, "okay, this is really weird, but...." He smiled at me.
Somehow, we both survived and we haven't been sent home yet, so I guess we didn't teach any false doctrine.
For those of you who are not of our faith, this would be like you Catholics instructing the Pope on church doctrine for 20 minutes or so. Just a little intimidating!

That is funny :-) I would have been nervous too. So you're saying you haven't gone across the street to borrow a cup of sugar yet??
ReplyDeleteNANCY!!!!! Oh my gosh my heart is pounding over here for you and your talk is already over! I'm feeling so nervous for you! Haha. I think I would have passed out!!! :) Great story!!! I LOVE it!!! :) Miss you!
ReplyDeleteWow, what an experience! I would have felt very awkward if I had been telling the story or reading a quote by President Monson. Good for you - I'm glad you passed with flying colors!
