Vanity

Friday morning, May 27th, two big power trucks pulled up and parked in front of my house. Of course I was curious, so I went outside and chatted with the workers for a few minutes. I found out that there was a transformer box in my yard that was giving them problems, so they were going to dig it up and fix it. Now, if I had only put my brain in on Friday morning, I would have figured out that if they dug up a transformer box in my yard, my house was probably going to be without power at some point in time. But that would be so logical. Instead, I puttered around the house all morning, and shortly before 11:00, took my morning shower and started to blow dry my hair. Well, duh! About half way through the power went out. I went outside and told the workers that I needed power for a few more minutes, because I needed to finish blow-drying and curling my hair. I asked them if they could please turn my power back on. They looked at me with "Are you stupid, lady?" looks on their faces, and said no. So I asked them how long they would be. They told me a couple of hours. I informed them that that was simply unacceptable, that I had an 11:30 lunch date and I needed to do my hair. "So, how can you fix this?" I asked. They talked to each other for a few minutes and offered to run an extension cord into my house for me. "Where will you plug it in?" I asked. They explained that there was a generator powered by their truck and that there was an outlet on the outside of the truck. Well that was a happy discovery! Not wanting to trouble them more than necessary, I just asked them if I could bring my blow dryer and curling iron outside and plug it directly into the outlet. They assured me that I could. So I brought two stools, my make up mirror, my blow dryer and the curling iron outside and finished my hair. I did blow their fuse with the blow dryer (they take so much power!), so one of the workers had to continuously rev the truck engine until my hair was dry, but after that, I was no trouble to them at all! My hair looked fabulous that day, by the way! Vanity knows no bounds.
