When your Byrd's feathers are growing in, your Byrd cannot reach the feathers around his neck or on his head, so you'll have to help him do it. Here's how:
1. Make sure your Byrd is comfortable with you. Invite him into your home often so he feels safe there. Let him bring a friend.
2. Ask him to vacuum under your couch cushions for you. This will help your Byrd feel useful. It will get him used to the noise of the vacuum cleaner, and show him that the vacuum is our friend.
3. Pretend to be disinterested in what your Byrd is doing. This will encourage him to experiment with other ways to use a vacuum cleaner
.4. When your Byrd has finished preening, he will probably become embarrassed to discover that he is the only person in the room who is preening. He may sit in the corner for a bit, covering his eyes and hoping that nobody can see him. This is a natural reaction, and will quickly pass
5. Reward your Byrd for taking such good care of himself. Smile at him. Feed him cookies. Tell him what a good Byrd he is. Soon enough he will be posing for other ridiculous pictures in front of your camera again!
We sure do love our Byrd! We think he is the best Byrd in all the world!!

:)
