Thanksgiving Day 2012

As surrogate parents for these 20-something year olds in the mission, who come from all over the world, we feel that it is important for the missionaries to learn about the culture and the customs of the people among whom they serve.  Accordingly, when the fourth Thursday in November rolls around, we make sure that they are properly introduced to the great American Thanksgiving Day  We remind them of all the blessings for which they should be grateful.  Then we take them outside for a Turkey Bowl and teach them how Americans play football.  This is significantly different than the way that most of them grew up playing "football" in Europe and South America!  When that is done, they quickly shower and head off for two or three turkey dinners, with mashed potatoes, gravy, homemade rolls and pumpkin pie, kindly provided by the wonderful members of the church in the Salt Lake Valley.  It doesn't get any better than this!

This is the crew that shared our Thanksgiving table in the mission home with us.
