Thursday night, Bruce and I knelt down across the bed from each other to say prayers before we went to sleep. After prayers, Bruce looked thoughtfully at me for a moment, his bride of 33 years, the love of his life, the woman of his dreams, the sweet young thing whom he had swept off her feet and married her when she was only 19 years old, the mother of his seven children, a grandmother of ten, his dearly beloved wife who was soon to have her 53rd birthday....he looked into my eyes and accidentally said what he was thinking.
"You sure are getting old."
On Friday, I went to the salon, and stayed there for four hours, getting a new do, some highlights and the gray colored out of my hair. On Monday, I went back to the salon and had a facial to remove some of those unsightly wrinkles from my delicate skin. Next week, I'm going to have a pampering, 90 minute pedicure to soften up my worn and calloused feet. Soon after that, I'm considering updating my old-looking wardrobe and adding some younger, fashionable clothes. Lots of them.
Those could just be the five most expensive words Bruce has ever spoken.
