May 7, 2013 - New Elders in the Mission

It's the Tuesday before transfers, and we have a LOT of new missionaries coming in this time, so this afternoon we have a bunch of new Elders coming up on the train from the MTC.  We will gather them at the train station, drop their luggage at the mission office, and bring them to the mission home.  Once we get all that done, we enjoy a wonderful evening with them.  We eat dinner, they each take a turn being interviewed by President Winn in his office, and we sit around getting to know each other.  They ask me questions about the mission.  I ask them questions about their lives before they became missionaries.  I tell them again and again, this is the last "down time" you'll have for two years.  I don't think they fully understand the truth of that statement.  That's probably a good thing!  The best part about the whole evening is the spirit that these amazing new missionaries bring into the mission home.  It is a tangible feeling, of faith, excitement, joy in serving the Lord, enthusiasm, desire and hope.  They are so powerful, yet they have no idea that they are.  What a mighty army going forth in the service of the Lord!  What a blessing it is to serve by their sides!
