February 19, 2013 - New Missionaries on the Front Runner

Transfer time rolled around again, and the Missionary Department decided to try something new!  Instead of driving the big white bus up from the Missionary Training Center in Provo, they put the new missionaries on a train running on the new rail system that goes between Provo and Salt Lake City.  The train is called the Front Runner, and this was our first experience with it.  The challenge, as we saw it, would be that the Front Runner only makes a 60 second stop at the Murray Station, where we were supposed to pick up our Elders.  We had 20 coming, packing all of their luggage that they would need for two years, and a couple of bicycles, too!  We wondered if we could manage it.

Elder Boyer, President Winn and Elder Linder
wait for the train.
The Front Runner approaches.

 and arrives!
The 60 second clck begins to run.....
the missionaries begin to tumble out, bag and baggage.

Somehow, they all managed to get off, and the train went on its way.
At least, we think we got everyone off....
Welcome to the Utah Salt Lake City Mission, Elders!
This was a pretty large transfer, with 18 visa-waiters
added to the regular USLCM missionaries.
So 20 came on Tuesday night, and the rest would come tomorrow.

Do you suppose we're all going to fit in here?
So they slept over at the mission home, where they thought they might get to relax a bit.  They each had an interview with President Winn, had some homemade lasagna and garlic bread, we chatted about the mission, and what it would be like to be a missionary.....and then I showed them what it would be like to be a missionary by dragging them over to the mission office and making them set up chairs and tables for the PMG Academy Awards Breakfast that would be held the next morning!!!  What a great bunch of Elders!!  We are so excited to have them here!
