Miracles: Part II

Elder Chamberlain & Elder White

Dear President Winn,

This past week was a long, but amazingly faith building week. We had two baptisms planned to take place this week, but things don't always work out as planned, and both baptisms were cancelled. We had no idea what we were going to do. We knew that the Lord wanted us to have a baptism and that someone was prepared and ready to be baptized.

On Sunday morning, we called the man who fills the baptismal font and asked him to fill the font for a 7:00 pm baptism. He asked who and how many were getting baptized? We told him we didn't know, but not to worry, that we would be having a baptism. We worked so hard to have a baptism, and to find that person who was ready. We tried pushing some investigators who had a baptism date to move their baptism up to an earlier date, but it didn't work. We were running around looking for anything possible, praying so much to find that person. We stopped by a few former investigators, and found a man that we could have sworn was the miracle we were looking for. After trying everything with this man, he just would not budge. By this time it was 7:30, and we were getting a little doubtful. We felt like we needed to go back to the chapel and pray to see who the Lord wanted to be baptized. We pleaded with the Lord for about 20 or 30 minutes. We were doing our part, and we were waiting and expecting His. As we were praying, the man who fills the baptismal font started singing "Nearer My God to Thee," a song that we sang at our last baptism. As he was singing, a name came to my mind. It was the name of a woman who had attended that baptism. Her name is Carina.

Carina has been going to church for months now, but she never wanted to meet with us. We taught her a few times, but it never went anywhere, she was always very stubborn. I asked my companion who came to his mind, and he said, "Carina." I knew that we needed to go. We hurried over to Carina's house and to our surprise she came out to talk to us! I told my companion, Elder White, ( a new missionary who has been in the mission for only 18 days) just to follow the spirit on what he needed to say. He very directly said, "Carina, we were praying and the Lord told us that you are getting baptized tonight." She didn't seem surprised or anything. Her countenance changed. She replied, "I was just thinking about the same thing!" We invited her to be baptized, and she accepted the invitation. Carina was baptized at 8:59 on Sunday evening, February 13, 2011, and confirmed at 9:15pm. To this day I feel like is was a dream. Everyone thought we were crazy to fill the font, but we knew someone was prepared. We knew that if the Lord is doing it with other missionaries, why not us? President, our faith is growing. I do not doubt and I know the Lord lives. The miracles that are happening now are because of our faith and the Lord is backing us up. It is amazing!! I cannot express how thankful I am to be a part of this.
