November 26,2012 - Festival of the Trees

Every year, Salt Lake City holds a Festival of the Trees, which is a fund raiser for the Primary Children's Hospital.  The first year we were here, Bruce took me on a date to the auction of the trees and I bought one.  He hasn't taken me back since.  In fact, he said that that one purchase used up all our date money for the entire three year mission, and he's hardly taken me on a date since then!  He was sort of right.  But it was an amazing tree - and a very good cause!
Anyway, the Festival of the Trees is a really cool event, and the Primary Children's Hospital is a very cool place.  This year, the more ambitious cousins in the Holderness family got together and decided to donate a family tree to the event.  Basically, this meant that our family would work together and decorate the tree, then donate it to be auctioned off.  Mindy was the mastermind of it all, but cousins from all over the country sewed little elf shoes and stars and an advent calendar and mailed them to Mindy, who then put the whole thing together.
On the day of the decorating,  Mindy allowed me to bring some of the Sisters in the mission to come and help her finish decorating the tree.  Actually, she was mostly done before we got there, but she let us feel useful.  We all had a really fun time, decorating and wandering around looking at the other trees.  It was the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit!
